Blue Moon with Sun in Virgo and Moon in Pisces

We're in Virgo folks! We've been in Virgo since August 22nd. Feeling like you should be a little more organized? Feeling like you need to focus on your health and get into shape? Yeah...that's Virgo. I was trying to explain it to a friend of mine and here's what I came up with. If Leo is all about fun, utilizing your talents, enjoying life and all those things that you love, and dare I say it, partying, then Virgo is the next morning; the morning when you're nursing your hangover while praying to the porcelain gods with your best tried-and-true home made cure, thinking, "I'm getting a little too old for this shit". In a matter of speaking, since Virgo is a grounded and an extremely knowledgable earth sign, it's about buckling down. You've had your fun and now it's time to do some work. It's really important that you do, because the next sign that the Sun will transit is Libra which is all about finding balance in your relationships. You can never be a whole person in a relationship until you're a whole person in yourself. Virgo is the last sign of the 6 month cycle we began in Aries in April to get you to this point before Libra. While the first 6 months and signs were all about you and your development, the next 6 months and signs are all about other people's effect on you, and how you effect them. This is your last real chance at self work. Virgo's phrase is "I analyze" and with much discrimination, it will put your through your paces and it doesn't mess around. It has too. It's it's job. Pair this with the Moon in Pisces with it's catch phrase "I believe", and you have the great fortune to become your own emotional and physical healer.

Virgo is my natal Moon so I'm heavily influenced. It's when I make all my appointments for my yearly physicals and I go heavily into "research mode", even more than usual. This is saying a lot. My favorite books as a child were the 3 sets of Encyclopedias that lined my parent's shelves. Those childhood faves have been replaced by Google (and Wikipedia) in my adulthood. So, with google as my guide I did a little lookie loo into the phenomena of Blue Moons. On August 31st we experience a Full Moon with a Sun in Virgo and a Moon in Pisces, but because it's the second full moon of August it also happens to be a Blue Moon. At least, that's how I learned them. If you've been keeping up you know about Full Moons now. It's two opposing signs and areas of experience pulling us in different directions, in this case the extremely grounded Virgo versus Intuitive Pisces, but what the heck is a Blue Moon really? I touched on it a little during the first Full Moon of the month but I have more info!

There are four different types of Blue Moons-

The first, literally, is that the moon is blue. This has only happened and couple of times and both during fire. Apparently the Full Moon looked blue because of the amount of smoke in the air. This is an extremely rare occurrence so that's not what we're dealing with here.

Another type of Blue Moon was so dubbed by the Farmer's Almanac and has to do with planting and harvesting. Our calendar is set up by 12 months with 4 seasons, and 3 full moons per season. When there is an "extra moon" in a season and has four instead of the classic three, then it is called a Blue Moon. The next one is next August 21, 2013.

When there are two consecutive Full Moons in the same sign, this can also be considered a Blue Moon. This will occur July 22, 2013 and August 21, 2013 (May I point out that's also the 4th Full Moon for that season) and it's far rarer than the other types. The last one of those was in 2002 at very nearly the same degrees and sign.

Lastly, there's the Blue Moon that I knew of growing up, two Full Moon's in one month. This occurs usually every 3 years with the next one occurring July 2015.

I did all this research on this topic because I wanted to see if there was an astrological significance to the Blue Moon. I did not find much, but I did find the perfectly worded passage from the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School website.

"The common factor to all these variations of a Blue Moon, either as seen through smoke, or the number of Full Moons in a season, or two Full Moons in a month, or two consecutive Full Moons in the same sign, is they captivate and inspire our imagination.

When we understand the pattern of what is happening then we can intentionally tune into the magic, getting the most out of the opportunity these Timings represent. One of the opportunities any Full Moon provides is a chance to experience greater illumination of our essential divine nature regardless of whether or not it is a so-called Blue Moon.

From the perspective that we inform the mysteries as much as they inform us, what we put our attention and intention on becomes meaningful. Since there is a lot of collective attention on the phenomenon of two Full Moons in a month, (even though its not astronomically significant) it has the effect of taking on greater significance as a result."

For those of you that scan, it's basically saying that a Blue Moon is no different than any other Full Moon, however since it a phenomena that will probably illicit an "OMG did you know it was a Blue Moon tonight?" text or FB post, the intention put behind said post is actually enough to MAKE it astronomically and magically significant.

This month as you are celibrating Virgo's and Pisces's opposition, think about how the rest of the world is celebrating also, whether they know it or not. Think about how wellness of the physical body and wellness of the emotional and spiritual body relate. What feeds the body will feed the soul and vice versa. Your body, mind and spirit are all connected. I feel most spiritually at home when I'm moving, especially when I dance. It gives me a natural out of body high that can't be duplicated any other way and it makes Virgo happy because I'm doing something for my health and it makes Pisces happy because it's dreamy. So, if you're on your own this Full Moon, become your own physical and emotional healer. Start from the foundation and work your way up. Be good to yourself. If you'd like a buddy, I'll be dancing on a pole in my own little dreamworld.
